Sharkey is one of the most established and recognised names of the hardcore music scene.
The legendary perfomer has tried his hand at an array of styles; starting in the early days of rave in ‘93 as an MC at the Rhythm Station for DJ Druid, where he won countless awards for MC of the year, before moving on to production and Djing, co-producing ‘Toytown’ on Hixxy’s Essential Platinum label, one of the biggest rave anthems of the era.
The song launched Jon’s career and led to a deal with the React label and the highly successful Bonkers compilation series which ran for 10 years and clocked up the best part of 1 million record sales. It also led to his radio show on Kiss 100 FM – including a stint on the Breakfast Show.
Sharkey released a successful solo EP “Revolutions”, “Product of Society” single and “Hard Life” on React and more recently has been instrumental in shaping the future of hardcore and freeform, with artists such as K Complex, AMS, and Arkitech, some of those who have evolved through Sharkey’s studio and tuition. His focus on guiding the talented bright lights and tirelessly harnessing the raw talent of upcoming production engineers is regarded as essential by Sharkey in ensuring the evolution of the hardcore music scene.
He is the only UK hardcore artist to have found success in all aspects of the genre, whether that be on microphone, in the studio, as engineer or as DJ. Jon’s achievements in these areas place him as the most prolific hardcore innovator of all time; only a select few can boast having had their hardcore tunes played on Radio One by the late great John Peel.
In 2008, Sharkey signed to All Around the World/Universal Music and recorded the basis of an album of which many of the tracks were included on Bonkers: Original Hardcore on Universal Music in 2009. In 2012 Sharkey has been busy working on electronic music material in his home studio and forging links with electronic labels.
